Day 1: Siem Reap – Peoung Kamnou – Koh Ker

At 8.00 am, our guide and driver pick you up from the hotel in Siem Reap and drive to Koh Ker. En route, we will stop to visit Peoung Kamnou on the foot of Kulen Mountain, it is the ancient carving of Hindu gods (Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva) on the original stone from the 9th century. Then continue to drive to Koh Ker, and on arrival get to one of the local houses. Pu Cheourn and his family welcome you, he will get you some drinks, local fruits, and lunch. He will also share with you the story of his life during the civil war from 1979 to 1999.,Then we drive to visit the Koh Ker temples. Koh Ker was built in the 10th century and functioned briefly as the Khmer Empire’s capital between 928 and 944 A.D. The style of the Koh Ker temple is different from any other temple in Cambodia and has more of a resemblance to the ancient pyramids of Egypt. Partially overgrown by the forest and inhabited only by birds, this temple and its surroundings are an exceptional experience. Return to the Pu Cheourn’s house for a quick shower before going to our campsite which is set up close to one of the old hidden temples, enjoy the authentic picnic dinner with candlelight, and overnight in a tent.

The temple is located near the Thai border and was previously occupied by the Thais. It has recently been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status.
